A NEGRA VERMELHA / THE BLACK WOMAN IN RED, 2024

Em 1997, A NEGRA foi apresentada na avenida Paulista, na mostra Diversidade da Escultura Brasileira Contemporânea – um objeto‑montagem em ferro e tule de náilon preto, armado sobre rodas que possibilitavam seu deslocamento no asfalto, ao longo da avenida; um objeto‑imagem que se misturava ao movimento da rua e contracenava com a cidade mutante dos transeuntes.
Para a exposição do Sesc, A NEGRA vem revestida de vermelho. O que antes era um vulto negro misterioso aparece agora com exuberância carnavalesca, quase um fogaréu… [CG]

In 1997, THE BLACK WOMAN was presented on Paulista Avenue as part of the exhibition Diversity of Contemporary Brazilian Sculpture — an assemblage object made of iron and black nylon tulle, mounted on wheels that allowed it to move along the asphalt of the avenue; an image-object that merged with the street’s flow and interacted with the city in flux, among its passersby.
For the Sesc exhibition, THE BLACK WOMAN appears dressed in red. What was once a mysterious black silhouette now emerges with carnivalesque exuberance — almost like a blaze… [CG]
