Instalação/ Installation – Capela do Morumbi, São Paulo, 1992

Trata-se de um conjunto de 81 peças desiguais construídas pelo empilhamento desengonçado de diferentes fragmentos de alumínio, tecido, madeira e parafina, estruturados por um eixo central.
As peças foram penduradas no madeiramento do telhado por um fio de nylon, com espaçamentos regulares entre elas, tanto na largura quanto no comprimento. As alturas são escalonadas por fileiras, de maneira a simular visualmente um plano inclinado em relação ao solo da capela.
Cada peça e o conjunto delas são como restos de uma iconografia barroca, disciplinadamente organizadas pela estrutura construtiva do edifício antigo. Não mais santos, altares e velas, mas volutas degradadas, ouro falso e tecido esgarçado, fragilmente dependurados num céu de telha-vã. [CG]

It is a set of 81 unequal pieces constructed by the awkward stacking of different fragments of aluminum, fabric, wood and paraffin, structured by a central axis.
The pieces were hung from the ceiling wood by a nylon cord, with regular spacings between them, both in width and length. The heights are staggered by rows to visually simulate a plane which is tilted in relation to the floor of the chapel.
Each piece and the ensemble of pieces are like remains of a baroque iconography, organized in a disciplined way by the constructive structure of the old building. No more saints, altars and candles, but degraded scrolls, fake gold and frayed fabric, hanging in a fragile manner, in a sky of empty ceiling. [CG]
