PENSAS, ACHAS, PODE, GOSTO / YOU THINK, YOU FIND, YOU MAY, I LIKE, 1996

Meu projeto parte do soneto “Spinoza”, de Machado de Assis. O poeta e o filósofo atravessam meu trabalho. É com eles que quero conversar sobre utopia (era esse o título dado à exposição que reunia muitos artistas na Casa das Rosas).
Destaquei no poema 11 verbos: gosto, ver, delineia, achas, soem, sibila, trabalhas, pensas, executas, morres, transmutas. Acrescentei pode.
PENSAS, ACHAS, PODE, GOSTO foram construídos com neon e suspensos nos quatro lados da sala. Organizei os outros verbos em pares e os recortei na seda branca que cobria todo o chão.
Os neons se replicavam muitas vezes nos vidros das janelas da sala, e, ora se ampliavam, ora diminuíam, dependendo da visada do observador. Se misturavam uns aos outros, quase como reverberações sonoras. Ecos. [CG]

My project comes from the sonnet of Machado de Assis, “Spinoza.” The poet and the philosopher are present in my work. It is with them that I want to talk about utopia (this was the title given to the exhibition that brought together many artists in the Casa das Rosas).
I highlighted in the poem eleven verbs: taste, see, delineate, find, sound, swish, work, think, execute, die, transmute. I added “can.”
YOU THINK, YOU FIND, YOU MAY, I LIKE were built with neon and suspended on all four sides of the room. I arranged the other verbs in pairs and cut them into the white silk that covered the whole floor.
The neon parts replicated themselves many times in the windows of the living room, sometimes larger, sometimes smaller, depending on the view of the observer. They mingled together, almost like sound reverberations. Echoes.  [CG]
