Esse trabalho foi concebido para ser construído em duas passarelas de pedestres, em ruas diferentes da cidade de Christchurch, na Nova Zelândia. Uma conteria a frase “REAL PEOPLE” e a outra, “ARE DANGEROUS”,^* ambas construídas com tubos de luz fluorescente vermelha.
A descontinuidade espacial entre as duas partes da frase buscava abrir o sentido e suscitar múltiplas leituras. Por outro lado, quando lidas juntas e reunidas numa afirmação, a junção passava a refletir a retórica do medo que domina e controla muitos aspectos da vida contemporânea.

* A segunda parte da frase foi interditada pelas autoridades locais, com o argumento de que a própria palavra “DANGEROUS” era perigosa. [CG]

This work was designed to be built on two pedestrian walkways on different streets of the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. One would contain the phrase “REAL PEOPLE” and the other, “ARE DANGEROUS”^* and both were made of tubes of red fluorescent light.
The spatial discontinuity between the two parts of the phrase sought to open the meaning and elicit multiple readings. On the other hand, when read together and brought together in a statement, the junction began to reflect the rhetoric of fear that dominates and controls many aspects of contemporary life.

* The second part of the sentence was interdicted by local authorities with the argument that the very word “DANGEROUS” was dangerous. [CG]
