US CARA FUGIU CORRENDO / THE DUDEZ BEAT IT, 2000

US CARA FUGIU CORRENDO é um neon que transcreve uma pichação de rua na parede do museu. O trabalho foi preparado originalmente para o Projeto Parede, do Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo.
O texto foi trabalhado em diferentes etapas. O princípio fundamental era recortar uma memória da rua: a língua errante, uma caligrafia tribal, uma escala, os cortes, os espaçamentos… Depois, tubos de vidro foram moldados a fogo e preenchidos com gás neônio numa fábrica de letreiros; para a parede escolhi tinta industrial na cor rosa – 1422M/coral. Ao final, cada um dos “cacos de vidro” foi fixado no alto da parede, bem junto ao teto. Completadas as ligações elétricas, os garranchos pontiagudos tingiram de vermelho a parede do museu.
Ao acolher essa fala, o museu se abriu por um momento às relações passageiras da rua. [CG]

THE DUDEZ BEAT IT is a neon-light work that transcribes a tagging/graffiti phrase found in the streets, bringing it to the wall of the museum. The work was prepared originally for the Projeto Parede, of the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo.
The text was worked on in different stages. The fundamental principle was to obtain a slice of memory from the street: slang speech, tribal calligraphy, a certain scale, the cuts, the spacings… Later, glass tubes were molded in a flame and filled with neon gas in a sign factory; for the wall, I chose industrial paint in the color pink – 1422M/coral. Finally, each one of the “glass shards” was attached high to the wall. The electrical connections were made, and the angular, hastily written letters bathed the museum wall in a pink glow.
By hosting this speech, the museum was opened for a moment to the fleeting relations of the street. [CG]
