10ª Bienal Internacional de São Paulo / 10th International Biennial of São Paulo, 1969

A CARGA, BARRIL, PRESUNTO e A PEDRA, 1968, foram apresentados pela primeira vez na X Bienal Internacional de São Paulo. Este conjunto de trabalhos tratava do momento político e social do Brasil, na época sob a ditadura militar.
Todos eles eram constituídos de materiais brutos – lona, palha, barril, plástico, colchões –, resíduos encontrados facilmente em galpões ou nas ruas, em barracos das periferias e beiras de estradas. Mesmo que cada um dos trabalhos aparecesse como unidade independente, em conjunto eles denunciavam a militarização e a violência convertidas em rotina nas grandes cidades brasileiras. [CG]

THE LOAD, BARREL, HAM and THE STONE, 1968, were presented for the first time at the 10^th International Biennial of São Paulo. This set of works dealt with the political and social moment in Brazil, at the time under the military dictatorship.
All of them were made of raw material, canvas, straw, barrel, plastic, mattresses – waste easily found in sheds or on the streets, in shacks on the outskirts and on roadsides. Even if each of the works appeared as an independent unit, together they denounced the militarization and violence that became routine in the great Brazilian cities. [CG]
